Wedding Cakes & Sugar Flowers-The fashion inspiration issue

Wedding Cakes & Sugar Flowers- The fashion inspiration issue
As a regular contributor to Cake Craft Guides- Wedding Cakes & Sugar Flowers Magazine and Party Cakes Magazine, I was very excited to hear the theme for issue 24. The issue is all about fashion inspired cakes!                                      I was given the task of designing a cake inspired by a Zuhair Murad gown. After looking through some wedding gowns, I quickly found a gown that I loved! Zuhair Murad's 'Tiana' gown with its sequins and floral embellishments became my design inspiration.

Here is a look at my initial design and notes for the wedding cake design.

Here is the completed design, beautifully photographed by Melissa Beattie photography. The design features sequins, chocolate jewels and embellished flowers.

The new issue which is available at to purchase here features my step-by-step tutorial for how to make this cake, including instructions for how to create your own jewel mould!

Here is a sneak peek at the inside of the magazine.

This was a really fun project to work on and I'm looking forward to sharing my next project for Party Cakes Magazine, which will be out later this year!

Blue and silver wedding cake

A gorgeous blue and silver colour scheme was chosen for Megan and Rob's wedding at Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa.  I loved the pretty pale blue and white sugar flowers combined with the silver leaf and silver geometric details on their cake.

Cascading Sugar Roses and Petal Ruffles

Todays Sugar Flower Sunday is all about sugar roses. I love the simplicity and elegance of a wedding cake with only sugar roses. It has a really modern yet timeless look. The sugar roses on this cake were made to match the roses in bride, Beverley's fresh flower bouquet. A gorgeous colour palette of pinks, purples and ivory sugar roses cascaded down the top two tiers of the cake.  The pretty ruffles on the bottom tier were created using one of my favourite techniques- Petal Ruffles. I have a tutorial for this technique in my dove grey wedding cake tutorial in my online shop  here    Don't forget to sign up for out mailing list while you are over there, I'll be sending out some discount codes very soon.  Here is a closer look at the different colours of the sugar roses in some close up shots. Which is your favourite? I loved the deeper pink shade!
