2012 Sugar Ruffles Highlights

As we come to the end of 2012 I am looking back on some Sugar Ruffles highlights this year. 2012 has been such a good year and I have had some fantastic opportunities I am looking forward to all that 2013 brings.

I have been lucky enough to work with several magazines this year. I was commissioned by Cake Central magazine to create two cakes for them this year. I really enjoyed working on theses cakes for the 'fashion' issue and the 'simple and sophisticated' issue. The cake I designed for the fashion issue was also featured on top cake blog Half Baked. In 2012 Sugar Ruffles cakes were also featured in two issues of Wedding Cakes- A design source magazine and back in September I was interviewed for Cumbria Weddings Magazine.

I am also looking forward to some exciting new magazine projects in 2013. Sugar Ruffles cakes are also going to be featured in the new editions of Wedding Cakes & Sugar Flowers and Wedding Cakes- A design Source magazine both out 31st January 2013. I also spend time in the last part of 2012 working on an exciting project for the April edition of Wedding Cakes & Sugar Flowers magazine. I can't wait to share this with everyone!

In October my sister got married and I loved making her wedding cake. This was definitely one of my highlights of 2012. See more in this blog post.

One of the best parts of my job is when I receive lovely feedback from customers.  Here are a couple of lovely emails I received this year. See more on the testimonials page on my website.

"Charlotte, I must say they were absolutely gorgeous!!! Everyone loved them and talked about it!!! One went to Venezuela and other two to Portugal!! Thanks a lot for your hard work and dedication, you managed to recreate exactly what we wanted. Miguel and I were both happy with the final product and totally pleased to have selected you for a wedding cake/favours. Thanks a million and all the best!"

"Thank you so much the beautiful cupcakes you delivered yesterday for my daughters 18th birthday. If you could have only seen my daughter Meg's face when she opened that box. I just can't tell you how excited and happy she was.  I will be recommending you to everyone. We had a lovely day out and she didn't expect that last surprise. They not only looked absolutely beautiful, they tasted as good as they looked. I can only thank you once again."

It also makes my day when I get lovely comments here on my blog, and when I post photos over on flickr and on facebook. Thank you so much to everyone who leaves me such kind comments :D

Here are a selection of some of my favourite wedding cakes from 2012

Happy New Year to all my blog readers.

A nude pink wedding cake featuring cake lace, petal ruffles and sugar flowers. I made the sugar flowers to tie in with the brides bouquet with quicksand roses, blush lisianthus and greenery including eucalyptus.  Here is the cake all set up at The Grange Hotel, Grange over sands.   I received such a lovely email from the happy couple with some very kind words!

Line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper. T ake a circular cutter and trace 16 circles onto the greaseproof paper. Flip the paper over so that the ink is on the bottom. Put the butter, icing sugar, plain flour, cornflour and vanilla extract in an electric mixer and mix until smooth.  Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star nozzle.  Pipe whirls of dough onto the greaseproof paper using the circles as a guide.
